Kettal describes the idea as an ironic take on ordinary upholstery. In place of one padded back, each chair carries two separate wraps, and colored straps hold them to the frame. The aluminum outline is kept thin and graphic on purpose, so the eye lands on the cushions first. Beneath the seat cushion, a semi-transparent micro fabric holds it up and lets light show through.

The straps fasten to the frame with two pins, and those pins are easy to remove. In a region with a proper winter this changes the routine: when the season ends the wraps come off and go into a closet or the garage, and the bare aluminum frame, which will not corrode, stays on the patio. Come spring the cushions are pinned back on and the chairs are ready again.

All the Roll tables share an aluminum base, with the top offered in aluminum, teak or marble. Every shape is round. There is a low coffee table, a central coffee table, a low all aluminum coffee table and round tables at full height. A round Kettal Roll dining table with a few chairs makes a compact set for a porch. Unoiled teak goes silver gray with time, while marble adds weight against the wind.

The stool uses the same fabric and aluminum as the chairs, so it can pull up to a coffee table or act as a spare seat when more people arrive than planned. Next to quieter Kettal patio furniture, Roll is usually the family that carries the color, because the straps and the two wraps read as a pattern on a terrace that is otherwise plain in tone.
